"Etienne Fouchet est sculpteur, de ceux pour qui le matériau est de la première importance. Au point que l’histoire de son travail, l’histoire que ce travail raconte, est celle des opérations effectuées, hybridations, greffes, assemblages, ligatures, collages, lacérations, etc. Les oeuvres qui en résultent, écrit Etienne Fouchet très joliment, «sont pareilles à des objets échoués à marée basse, quand la mer est au repos». Le mystère de ces objets tient à ce qu’ils associent des formes naturelles, organiques, à des marques d’interventions qui en même temps parlent obscurément d’une histoire personnelle, pudeur et intensité mêlées. De la même manière, on sent dans ces travaux une tension très forte entre la puissance de la structure, bois ou métal, et la légèreté et la translucidité de ce qui la recouvre, la résine polyester dont l’artiste travaille les qualités propres, les réactions aux couleurs ou aux adjuvants qu’il lui incorpore".

"Etienne Fouchet is a sculptor for whom material is of the upmost importance. The story of his work, the story that is told through his work, is the result of these accomplished operations: hybridizations, transplants, assemblages, ligatures, collages, lacerations, etc. And Etienne Fouchet beautifully describes the resulting objects as «stranded in low tide, when the sea is resting». The mystery of these objects lies in the fact that they associate natural, organic forms with marks of intervention that speak of a personal story, in which modesty and intensity are mingled. In the same way, one senses in his work a strong tension between the strength of the structure, be it wood or metal, and the lightness and translucence of the polyester resin covering it; the artist works on the resin’s qualities and examines its reaction to colour and substances that are added to it".
